Who cannot use the urgent services
- Anyone applying for their first adult passport — use the standard service, which usually takes about 3 weeks (longer if you need an interview).
- Anyone outside the UK — apply for an Emergency Travel Document instead.
- Anyone who has already applied and is still waiting — a new urgent application will not get your passport sooner, and you will be charged a £34.50 admin fee for each extra application.
Passport office appointments
Appointments last up to 10 minutes and are held at passport offices in Belfast, Durham, Glasgow, Liverpool, London, Newport and Peterborough.
Changing your appointment is free if it is more than 48 hours away. Within 48 hours you have to cancel and rebook, which costs £34.50. There is no refund if you miss it.
Someone else can attend for you with your reference number and old passport. For Premium they also need a signed, dated letter from you and their own ID.
