Passport validity for China
The expiry date on your passport must be at least 6 months after the day you arrive in China. You also need 2 blank pages for visas and entry stamps.
You will be refused entry with an invalid passport or one reported lost or stolen.
Visa-free travel and visas
British citizens can currently stay up to 30 days without a visa for tourism, business, family or friend visits, or transit. This arrangement runs until 31 December 2026.
For longer stays, or for work, study or journalism, you must get a visa before you go. Most adults must attend a visa application centre in person to give fingerprints.
After you arrive
You must register where you are staying with the local Public Security Bureau within 24 hours. If you are in a hotel, staff will do this for you when you check in.
You may also go through medical screening, and need a yellow fever certificate if arriving from a risk country.
